Organizations

We're involved with several groups and organizations

  • Trinity Lutheran Church - Jeanne is a lifelong member of Trinity and Mark joined in 1988.  We've been active volunteer's including as ushers, offering counters, lectors, Sunday School teachers, and leading the youth group.  Jeanne has been responsible for the church's involvement with Meals on Wheels, and Mark became church treasurer in February 2009.
  • Abington Lions Club - Mark was involved in the Abington Lions Club in 1978-79, and rejoined in 2001.  Mark has been the treasurer since 2003.  Lions Club is an international organization of men and women who do community service and support programs for people with vision and hearing impairments.  The Abington Lions Club is part of Pennsylvania Lions District 14-H.
  • Waverly Masonic Lodge #301 - Mark has been a Mason since 1993. Unfortunately, the meetings of our lodge tend to conflict with other obligations and involvement has been limited.  Our lodge doesn't have a webpage, but has a facebook group
  • Boy Scout Troop 160 - We've had a long relationship with Boy Scout Troop 160.  Mark started as a Cub Scout in 1963, attained Eagle Scout in 1974 and was Assistant Scoutmaster and Committee Chairman at several points over the years.  Jeanne and Mark met at a Cub Pack registration night.  All of the boys have been in the Troop, with Brian attaining Eagle Scout in 1999 - exactly 25 years after Mark became Eagle.  We remain great friends with many other scouters and Eagle Scouts, and the boys have developed their own set of permanent friendships through the Troop.

What we do

Family Activities

We've always loved to play cards and games as a family.  The boys learned to play Pinochle at a young age, and we have spent many hours playing cards while on trips.  All the kids, except Ty, are decent Pinochle players

Drum Corps

Jeanne and Mark are Drum Corps enthusiasts.  We go to 2 or 3 Drum Corps competitions each year.  In 1990 we began attending the annual Drum Corps Associates (DCA - Senior Corps) World Championships, and have attended each year's championships from 1990 thru 2005 except for 1996.

Special Vacations

Year Special Happenings
1991 Jeanne and Mark take a get-away to Fernwood in the Poconos.  This wasn't the original plan, but we didn't like the first hotel so we just stopped at Fernwood to see what was available.  The only room they had was the deluxe room with the round bed, the mirrors on the ceiling and the jacuzzi.
1995 Jeanne and Mark take a get-away to Wildwood, NJ.  The most memorable experience was watching "Waterworld" in a run down theater that didn't have air conditioning.
2002 Las Vegas - Jeanne and Mark take a get-away in Las Vegas.  We see some awesome shows and sites: Hoover Dam, Valley of Fire, Blue Man Group, Penn and Teller, Andre Phillipe (an amazing vocal impressionist).  We fall in love with Vegas and can't wait to go back.
2002_LasVegas
2003 Atlantic City - Mark wins the Jackpot on a Nickel slot machine at $1,100, though we lose it all before the end of the weekend.  If only I had played 5 credits instead of 3 - would have won over $800,000.  Oh well.
2004 Las Vegas - Jeanne and Mark take a get-away in Las Vegas.  We see some great shows: Earth, Wind & Fire, Gladys Knight, and "We Will Rock You"- a Queen inspired musical.  We also learn to play several new games together and have a tremendous time.
2005 Las Vegas - Jeanne & Mark stay at Treasure Island.  We have a tremendous time!  We see Mystique, and a tremendous improvisational show starring Wayne Brady.
2006 Las Vegas - Jeanne, Mark, Beth & Pat Troy.  We stay at Treasure Island and again we think they have the best pool on the strip.  We get to see Ray Romano (hilarious), and Celine Dion (incredible voice).  Great time
2007 Atlantic City - Its not Vegas, but Jeanne and Mark have a great time in Atlantic City for a few days
2008 Las Vegas - Jeanne, Mark, Beth & Pat Troy.  We stay at Treasure Island.  We see Blue Man Group, Chicago (the band), and Santana
2009 Penn State Weekend with the Phillips clan

2008 Wine Trip -  Here are two pictures from our Wine trip, October 18th, 2008.  In the first picture are Bob and Natalie Crandle and Frank and Nancy Melliand.  The second picture includes Bob and Jan Huylo.  This was the last official winery on our trip, which accounts for the smiles I guess.  Actually, the smiles are because we have the best neighbors and friends.  We have a ton of fun, and a lot of laughs.  Great people.

Notice how beautiful it is in the Finger Lake region.

We also did a wine tasting tour in the fall of 2009, but didn't take any pictures.  We always have a great time, especially at Hazlett Winery and the famous Red Cat cheer.
